Prof. Daniel Dramani Kipo-Sunyehzi

Prof. Daniel Dramani Kipo-Sunyehzi is an Associate Professor at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD), University of Ghana. He has his training in the Department of Political Science, University of Ghana and the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy. He was also trained in the Department of Public Administration and Organisation Theory, University of Bergen, Norway. 

Research Interest

Prof. Daniel Dramani Kipo-Sunyehzi's areas of scholarship include Foreign Policy and International Studies/Politics, Peace, Conflict and Security Studies, Public Administration and Public Policy, Social Policy and Social Welfare, Health Policy and Health Systems, Universal Health Coverage, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Methodologically, he is inclined towards qualitative and mixed research methods and with some theoretical insights on principal-agent and stewardship, rational choice, structure-agency, welfare, human security critical theory, among others. Philosophical issues: holism, individualism, rationalism, structure-agency relationships in areas of foreign policy and health care policies and provision are areas of interest to the researcher.  

Prof. Daniel Dramani Kipo-Sunyehzi has conducted four research projects, namely the 2024 Nkwanti conflict, 2023 international conflict resolution along Ghana-Togo border, 2021 Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), road safety from the African Union perspective, implementation of National Health Insurance Scheme in Ghana in rural Ghana and a similar study in urban Ghana from public-private organisational perspectives, international perspective on mental health law in Ghana among other research projects. Plans are underway to extend the study to Liberia, particularly E.S. Grant Mental Health Hospital in Monrovia. 

Prof. Daniel Dramani Kipo-Sunyehzi performs several services/duties in LECIAD. Currently, the Examination Officer, Seminar Coordinator since 2023, coordinates the quarterly publication known as the ‘Conflict Watch’ in the Centre. This publication reports on conflict spots and potential conflict issues in Ghana. It serves as an ‘early warning tool’ and encourages stakeholders to be more proactive in identifying and managing latent issues of competing interests, so they do not lead to full-blown violent conflict in society. Also, Assistant Editor, Legon Journal of International Affairs (LEJIA). From September 2018.

Awards/Grants

Prof. Daniel Dramani Kipo-Sunyehzi received the prestigious Norwegian Government Quota Scheme Scholarship for 6 years (2009-11); (2012-2015). He also received the University of Ghana  Conference Grant, ORID, January 2020, Meltzer Research Fund in 2015 and 2013, a small grant from the Institut Francais de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA) in 2009.
