As part of its extension activities, the Centre in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has commenced an ECOWAS-Spain Migration Project to facilitate intra-regional migration by addressing issues of irregular migration and promoting safer migration among Community members. This is in accordance with the provisions of the Community’s Protocol on Free Movement of Persons, Residence and Establishment.
Acknowledging the critical role of migration management bodies in ensuring and guaranteeing free movement, and protection of vulnerable populations, the need to enhance the knowledge of these frontline officers on instruments related to free movement within the sub-region has been identified.
Carved to address this need, the ECOWAS-Spain Migration Training Project, titled: ‘Promoting Safer Migration, Security and Integration within the ECOWAS Sub-Region’, thus seeks to build the capacity of these officers to offer needed guidance on migration procedures as well as develop proactive programs on safe migration. It also aims at enhancing the skills of personnel on how to deal with migrants forced to move because of natural and man-made complex challenges. This five-day pilot version of this training comprises of ten Immigration and five Customs Officials from various border crossing points around Ghana.
The Centre respectfully invites the University Community to the Opening Ceremony of the programme. This ceremony will take place in Training Room 1 of the LECIAD Building, University of Ghana, Legon, on Monday, 26th January 2015, at 0900 Hours.
