Dr Afua Boatemaa Yakohene is a distinguished Senior Research Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD), University of Ghana. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre Arts and an MPhil in International Affairs from the University of Ghana, as well as a PhD in Politics, Human Rights, and Sustainability from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento, Pisa, Italy.
Afua supervises and examines Master’s and Doctoral students in diverse areas of international affairs at the University of Ghana and the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College. Since August 2020, she has served as a Course Tutor and Supervisor for the Online Master’s in Electoral Policy and Administration (MEPA), jointly organized by Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
Her teaching and training experience at LECIAD and beyond includes Gender and International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Political Development, International Institutions, Africa in Global Affairs, and Research Methodology. Her research focuses primarily on Africa, covering peace and security, governance, international institutions, and gender-related issues. Afua has extensive experience in teaching, research, consultancy, advocacy, training, and workshop facilitation for governments and international organizations.
She is a member of the Greater Accra Regional Peace Council, a branch of Ghana’s National Peace Council, and has participated in numerous trainings, workshops, and rostering exercises with the African Union and other international institutions. Afua recently served as the Co-Governor of the 13th Interdisciplinary Fellow Group (IFG 13) at the Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA), University of Ghana.
